Hrathgar, the new king is greatly respected and fortunate. War was a fortune to him and he used his authority to his advantage. Hrathgar used his authority to build his throne-room, which was named Heorot.
Grendel, a grim demon came to the land at nightfall and grabbed 30 men from their beds and took them to his lair. Grendel murdered the men and returned the next night and murdered more, with no remorse. People in the land were afraid for their lives, young and old were all at risk.
Hygelacs thane hears about what Grendel is doing to these men and decides he will do something about it. He works up a plan, gets a boat, and men to travel and fight with him. No one from Geat tries to stop him from going because they know his strength and have faith.
When the crew gets ashore a worker who watches the shore questions why the men are there. Hygeleac's thane introduces himself and shows true concern about what is happening with Grendel and tells the worker he is there to help. The worker belives him and agrees to help take him to Hrathgar.
When Hrathgar's herald and officer is introduced I learned that the brave man from Geatland's name is Beowulf. Hrathgars herald goes to Hrathgar to get permission for Beowulf to speak to him. Hrathgar already knows Beowulf and has heard many great things about him so he allows him in. Beowulf tells the king more about himself and his triumphs and begs him to let him fight Grendel. Hrathgar approves and plans a feast for Beowulf and his men. At the feast Beowulf and the men eat and drink. Beowulf was asked many questions and told many stories about his heroic journeys of the past.
In the online article, I didn't find much of a similarity to Beowulf. It was actually kind of opposite. The poem, unlike Beowulf or Paradise Lost rhymed.

Beowulf Journal 1
In the first 60 lines of Beowulf, Shield Sheafson has just passed away and the book tells about his burial. Sheafson was a great king so when he died he was honored greatly. His body was casted off on a boat filled with treasures and things fit for a king. Beow, Sheafson's son becomes heir after his fathers death and takes over. In Beowulf, I get the impression that the women holds not too much importance. When men are addressed we also learn their names. However, when a women is addressed we only learn her husbands name. The women is left nameless.
I think that reading Beowulf will be much easier than Paradise Lost. Just by reading the first 60 lines I almost understood everything that was going on with little help from outside sources.

JOURNAL 10- Book IX
In the beginning of book IX Raphael is on his way back to Heaven. God is on his way to Paradise and so is Satan, returning after he had been vanished. Satan decided to disguise himself as a snake in Paradise so no one would tell it was him. Satan thinks that Earth is so beautiful, even more beautiful that heaven. He also seems a little jealous of Adam and Eve. Back in the garden, Adam and Eve get ready for the work they do in the morning. Eve suggest to Adam that they should work separately to get more work done but Adam isn't so fond of the idea, he be lives that Satan may be up to something. however, Eve convinced Adam and they decided to work alone.
In the article Easter Day, honesty I didn't understand much that was going on. I also hardly saw a connection other than the talk about angels, and Heaven and Hell.

In class assignment
Eve, in the beginning awakes in the garden not knowing who and where she is. She See's her reflection and seems confused and not in touch with reality. Inside of her is Adam's rib which gives Eve and Adam a close bond. Eve also feels love at first sight with Adam and a strong connection to him. Adam is more connected to reality because he knows his surrounding and his own being. Their gender relationship is very strong but I'm not sure if it still would be if their were any other men around. All Eve knows is Adam and that she is connected to him.

JOURNAL 9
In book VII and VIII of Paradise Lost Adam seems really curious about the creation of the world and of his own self. Raphael begins to explain to Adam the story. After their conversation, Adam speaks to Raphael about the stars and things. Raphael seems like he knows a lot about the world and creation. Adam asks him many questions threw out their time together. After Raphael speaks, Adam tells him about his own creation, and when he first woke up. After Adam realized how much he could do God came and explained more to him, and told him that he may not eat from the Tree of Knowledge.
Timaeus by Plato is very similar to book VII and VII. Both address the creation of the world by God, even though different Gods. Also, the Gods both want good to come from their work. Both Milton and Plato speak of how women come from man, and how they are weaker. Milton says in book VIII that Eve is not as pure as Adam because she came from his rib. Plato said that women come from men who were too weak.

Journal 8-2403
In Timaeus By Plato I learned a lot about him. He like Milton speaks about the creation of everything. His God is Demiurge, and he has limits unlike God. Demiurge needs something the create with. Plato had many gods and they are mortal. They both speak of the world and male and females. Plato also believed that weak men turned into women, with the idea that women come from men. I couldnt understand much of the reading, however, our talk in class helped a lot.

JOURNAL 7-2403B
In book V of Paradise Lost, the setting takes place in Paradise. Adam and Eve awake from their sleep, Adam peaceful, Eve restless. Even begins to tell Adam of her dream where she followed what looked like an Angel to the tree of knowledge. There the angel ate fruit from the tree and told Eve that if she ate she would be like the gods also. However, before Eve could taste the fruit the angel vanishes and her dream ends. Adam isn't too thrilled with the dream and they continue praising God. In Heaven god sends the angel Raphael to Paradise to warn him about the devils trickery. Raphael explains to Adam about nature, humans, and animals. He also explains to him about being obedient to god. Raphael then tells Adam of Satan and the story of his Fall.
In book VI of Paradise Lost Raphael is still telling Adam of the problems between Satan and God. Gods army consist of about the same amount of soldiers. Both sides face each other waiting to fight. Satan and Abdiel square off and the war begins.
Not much went on in Book VI. The war was the main focal point and Satan's plan. In Book V, I wonder what will happen with Adam and Eve and the tree of knowledge.

Wallace Steven's The Idea of Order at Key West, like Milton's Paradise lost, is very long to be a poem. it seems like in the beginning of the first paragraph there is a short sentence. However, the rest of the paragraph is a single sentence. Its hard to understand exactly what Stevens is trying to say. I can only interpret a few parts of the poem. Stevens may be speaking of a women, and also nature. It also sounds like he is comparing a women to the sea, and nature.
In Book IV of Paradise lost Satan is on his way to Eden. As he approches, he see's how beautiful it is, and thinks of what could happen if he were to ask God for forgivness. However, Satan knows he'll always have Hell, and could never bow down to him. In Eden, there are many animals and tree. It, like in Steven's poem, is very nature like. Satan gets jealous as he see's the new world that was created after he and the other devils fell. Uriel belives that one of the fallen is in Eden and tells another angel. They then plan of seached for him and finding him by morning. By then Adam and Eve were in their Hut where Satan had disguised himself as a toad, or frog, and was wispering into Eve's ear while she slept. The Angels found him there and questioned why he was there. Satan began to fight the angel until he got a sign that he would lose, and left.
